Who will lead the new era in men’s tennis?
Let’s see the facts: For the first time since 2003 the season ended not with Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal or Novak Djokovic at the No1 of the ATP charts. A, ok and neither Andy Murray who was the only one to break the sequence back in 2016. Federer and Nadal finished 5 times as No1 in the end of a season, while Djokovic did it seven times, before Carlos Alcaraz stopped this streak.

Nadal will be 37 years old, Federer retired officially which leaves only Novak Djokovic to represent the “old guard” in the fight for the top spot. And actually, Nole was the No1 for last season as well, but didn’t compete in Australia and US Open due to his Covid vaccine revolt. The Serb superstar who will turn 36 in 2023 is the clear favorite to win all four Grand Slam tournaments, but this isn’t so attractive as a bet, is it?
So let’s see the alternatives. There are a lot of youngsters on the rise who will fight hard to end Novak Djokovic's reign. The Serb will go to Melbourne in order to win his 10th Australian Open. One of the outsiders is the American Taylor Fritz, who comes at odds 31, while another interesting duo is Stefanos Tsitsipas (at odds 19) and Alexander Zverev (at odds 20).
As for the fight for the top position at the end of the season, again the clear favorite is Novak Djokovic. But, will this season be a “normal” one? Probably not, since Wimbledon will exclude Russians again, which will lead to reducing winning points and he still can’t enter the USA. This leaves Alcaraz as the next candidate. The Spaniard, though, has a difficult task in front of him, since he will have to defend some serious points in the start of the season.
On the other hand the Norwegian Casper Ruud seems to have an easier way. He didn’t play in Australia last season he can cover the distance and then trying to repeat his last season successful appearances in Roland Garros and the US Open when he reached the final.
Casper Ruud to win a Grand Slam tournament comes at odds 9 which seems pretty fair.
