Who is London’s No2

Behind the outstanding Arsenal FC, the two London clubs Fulham FC and Tottenham are currently the best-placed teams from the capital. While it is a great achievement for Fulham FC to be in 6th place, Tottenham cannot be satisfied with their 5th place and their recent performances.

Fulham FC only got promoted from the Championship before this season. It was the 3rd promotion for the London club in the past 6 years. Now they want to stay up in the league for the first time since 2013/14. The team already has more points than 2 years ago. Staying up in the league should be almost certain for them, because they are currently in a Europa League place. 

There is also the opponent Tottenham Hotspur. For the Spurs, however, the past few weeks have been anything but ideal. The goal for them is clearly a place in the Champions League, but they are already separated by 5 points. Another defeat would probably increase this gap further.

Fulham analysis

What happened to Fulham? In fact, it's a very difficult question to answer, but coach Marco Silva is influencing it, as are some of the summer's new arrivals. Fulham is certainly not one of the best teams in the league in terms of quality and does not have a real star in the team. The collective of the London club has only worked very well so far and manages to win many close games. They already have more wins than in their last two Premier League seasons. The number of points is already better now than in these two years. The form was also outstanding until the last match day, after all they won 4 in a row. Their first defeat of 2023 came on the final day away at Newcastle United.

Apart from Manchester City and Arsenal, Fulham can arguably be counted among the best attacking teams this season. After all, the team didn't manage to score a goal only 3 times in 20 games this year. With 32 goals under their belt, they have already scored more goals than in the entire 2020/21 season. In their own stadium there are 18 goals in 10 games and thus almost 2.00 goals per game. The top scorer in the team is once again Aleksandar Mitrovic, who was able to score 11 times this year. But newcomer Andreas Pereira also knows how to shine as a playmaker and has already made 5 assists this year. Aside from losing 1-0 to Newcastle, Fulham have scored consistently in their last 6 games, also against the two Manchester clubs and Chelsea.

Of course, what Fulham also plays into the cards is that they almost always have their entire squad available over the season so far. So far there have hardly been any long-term injuries and with Neeskens Kebano only one player is currently unavailable. However, he is not one of the regulars in Marco Silva's team anyway. The new additions from the summer also seem to be well integrated . Joao Palhinha directs midfield, Issa Diop holds the defense together and Andreas Pereira is arguably the most creative midfielder in the squad. In addition, 34-year-old Willian is experiencing his second spring in London.

The direct duels do not paint a particularly nice picture for Fulham FC. They usually lose out against their city rivals, as a look at the past few years shows quite clearly. The hosts last won in 2013 when they won 0-1 away. The last home win was in the FA Cup in 2011. They have now been waiting for the next success for 8 games, 7 of these last 8 games have even been lost. Also this season the two teams met on the 6th day of the game. Tottenham prevailed 2-1 at home. It was the 4th game in the last 5 meetings where both teams could score.

Tottenham in crisis

Tottenham once again got off to a very good start to the season and then fell back a lot. In the meantime, they have slipped out of the top 4 of the table and are only in 5th place. In the past 10 competitive games, the Spurs have lost 6 and only 3 games have been won. Coach Antonio Conte is looking increasingly at a loss and it's not certain he will continue through the summer. They are already 5 points behind the all-important 4th place in the table. One should therefore probably not allow oneself another defeat, otherwise the deficit threatens to become too big. In addition, they would lose 5th place to Fulham FC.

A clear weakness at Tottenham and that is the defense. Tottenham simply conceded too many goals for a top team. After 19 Premier League games, 27 goals have been conceded. They managed their last league game without conceding a goal in mid-October in a 2-0 triumph over Everton FC. In 8 of the last 9 games they even conceded at least 2 goals. Only in the last away game against Crystal Palace did they remain goalless and celebrate a 0:4 success. In general, it seems to be easier to defend away from home than at home. In 9 away games only 12 goals were caught. Only 4 teams can have a better value here.

We've already dealt with Tottenham's poor defence. But now we also want to look at the offensive, because the shoe pinches there too. Apart from Harry Kane, hardly any offensive player is in top form. The England team captain is the team's top scorer with 15 goals and 2nd-best in the league.However, there is a big gap behind them, because the 2nd top scorer Heung-min Son has just 4 goals on his account. New signing Richarlison was injured for a long time in the autumn and is not coping as well as one might have hoped. Overall, the Spurs still have a strong 37 goals after 19 games and thus almost 2.00 goals per game. The Londoners have not scored a goal for the third time in the league this season.

Fulham - Tottenham: What to expect? 

Fulham are simply having an outstanding season this year and Tottenham are having a poor season. The guests are still 2 points ahead of the hosts in the table. However, the Spurs rarely perform consistently, which is why we advise against a win bet. A double chance X/2 should be suitable for a combination bet. We also consider a betting tip on Both teams to score to be safe. A high over/under bet on over 3.5 goals would be suitable as a risk bet.
