A battle to avoid relegation

The second division of France is also approaching the summer break. In the penultimate round, Paris FC meets FCO Dijon at the Stade Gaston Gérard, Dijon's home ground. This season is already over for Paris , they could at most make up a place in the middle of the table. However, Dijon are still fighting relegation and are in dire need of points. They are still in a safe place in the French second division, but they are level on points with Pau FC, which is in the first relegation zone.

The 37th match day in Ligue 2 of France takes place on Friday. Chamois Niort and Nîmes Olympique are already firmly relegated to the National 1, nothing can change that. However, it remains exciting with the last two relegation places, as well as with the two promotion places. Stade Laval (40) and Pau FC (41) are 17th and 18th respectively and would join the last two teams as they stand. It's pretty tight ahead of them though, and 12th-placed Amiens SC (44) could still be relegated. At the top end, only FC Metz remains in contention with the two top teams for promotion to Ligue 1. Dijon have performed well in recent games to break out of the relegation zone, but they are not out of the woods either. A three-point win would be immensely important for them , since they still have to play against the first-placed team in the last game.

FCO Dijon

Since being relegated to Ligue 2, things have not been going so well for Dijon, especially when it comes to looking for a coach. Since November 2020, they have not held a coach for more than a year and this season they have their second coach in Pascal Dupraz. With Omar Daf, the Dijon Elf ended up in 19th place and thus on the penultimate place in the table before deciding on a new coach.

Dupraz has been with Dijon since the beginning of April and his new team hasn't lost a single game since April. They are unbeaten in seven games with four wins and three draws. If the results match, another win could take them to 12th in one fell swoop, it's so close at the bottom of the table. With the last match against AC Le Havre, who are currently at the top, Dupraz and his team will do everything to get those three points.

Except for the third substitute goalkeeper, all players should be fit for Friday. Coach Pascal Dupraz will probably field his team again in the well-known 4-2-3-1, with top scorer Mickaël Le Bihan at the top. The French-born has already scored 12 goals this season, including two in the last game against Amiens SC.

Paris FC

Pariser FC is not necessarily where they want to be either. Finishing in fifth and fourth place for the last two seasons, they currently sit in seventh place with 51 points. Behind them is Grenoble Foot with the same number of points and in front of them FC Sochaux with one point more. Despite the failure in the round of 16 of the French Cup against FC Annecy, Paris has also been able to convince in the last few games and is now unbeaten in five games. The Parisians won their last game against FC Sochaux-Montbéliard after trailing 1-0. In the 81st minute, the top goalkeeper from Paris scored to make it 1-1 and Pierre-Yves Hamel then scored in injury time and sealed the game.

In Paris, too, the entire starting eleven should be fit for the encounter with Dijon. However, the formation is not steady by coach Thierry Laurey, so Paris could play with a 5-3-2, a 5-4-1, a 3-4-3 or a 3-4-2-1. Since they could achieve good results with the 3-1-4-2 formation in the last two games, it is also conceivable for this game.

Dijon - Paris FC: What to expect?

As relegated Dijon have usually always played a tier above Paris, there aren't that many encounters between the two sides. Both teams have won twice and drawn once in five games. Paris FC narrowly won the last game after Dijon was sent off in the 84th minute, young Loup Diwan Gueho (19) scored his first and only goal in Ligue 2 in the 93rd minute.

Even though Paris has done slightly better than Dijon overall this season, we think Dijon definitely has a chance of winning. In any case, they will do everything they can to avoid being relegated and to snag their eighth win in their losing streak. We bet on a tip 2 and both teams hit YES.

  • Paris FC to win
  • Both Teams To Score
