Is a surprise possible in Wimbledon's 1st round?

Stefanos Tsitsipas was not in good shape recently. We see a lot of defeats listed there. But according to our betting tip prediction, things are not looking any better for Dominic Thiem. On the other hand, if we look at the ATP world rankings, the Greeks are in a better position than the Austrians. Of course, we don't want to be guided by this one number when making our forecast. More facts need to be on the table for the game at the All England Club in London. This is exactly where we start with our tennis forecast for Wimbledon. Because we look at the previous successes of both opponents and also examine the most recent achievements. For both players, the 1st round in Wimbledon will take place on Tuesday.

Dominic Thiem form

At the age of 29, Dominic Thiem is now almost an old hand in the tennis world. After all, it's his 13th pro season. He is currently only in 90th place in the ATP world rankings. At his best (March 2020), however, he was ranked 3rd. It is therefore hardly surprising that he also has successes in the Grand Slam tournaments. Dominic Thiem won the US Open in 2020. At the Australian Open (2020) and French Open (2018 and 2019) it was enough to reach the final. Only at Wimbledon was his best result reaching the round of 16 (2017). England is not his territory. Then in 2023 in the first round he also got a big chunk drawn. Thiem has proven his qualities.

The mentioned injury has missed his tennis career a significant kink. Recently there have been more defeats than wins. He recently lost to Alexander Zverev in Halle 3: 6 and 4: 6. Before that, it was also over immediately in Perugia. Against Travaglia, who had house rights, there was a 6: 2, 6: 7 and 1: 6 to see. In Heilbronn it was enough for the second round. There, however, he was eliminated against Martinez with 6:2, 3:6 and 1:6. After all, Thiem previously won 6: 4 and 6: 4 against Uchida. At the French Open he was eliminated immediately in a duel with Cachin. After all, his strength was enough for five sentences. He lost 3:6, 2:6, 7:6, 6:4 and 2:6. Only one win can be found in the most recent six matches. In the last ten games, however, there are four successes.

Stefanos Tsitsipas form

Stefanos Tsitsipas is definitely the favorite in the 1st round. After all, the Greek occupies 5th place in the world rankings. He's only 24 years old though. His power is enough to lead the backhand with one hand. Furthermore, his individual record is impressive. Because for 276 wins there are only 127 defeats. Despite very good performances, it has not yet been enough for a Grand Slam title. However, Stefanos Tsitsipas was already in the final at the Australian (2023) and French Open (2021). At Wimbledon (2018), the round of 16 was his best result. Only at the US Open (2020 and 2021) did the Greek not get past the 3rd round. What does Tsitsipas have to offer this year?

Do we have to worry about the tennis forecast? Things didn't go as planned for Tsitsipas recently. At the Boodles Challenge he only made it to the second round, where he narrowly lost to Lajovic 4:6, 7:6 and 7:10. After all, there was a 6: 4 and 6: 4 in a duel with Davidovich Fokina to report. In Mallorca it was immediately over against the German underdog Hanfmann after a 4: 6, 6: 3 and 2: 6. In addition, the Greek lost in Halle in the second round with 6:7 and 5:7 against Jarry. In advance, however, the 6: 7, 6: 4 and 7: 6 against Barrére af the plan. In Stuttgart, Tsitsipas was beaten 6: 7, 6: 2 and 5: 7 against Gasquet. At the French Open it was enough to make it to the quarter-finals, where the Greek bid farewell to world number 1 Carlos Alcaraz 2: 6, 1: 6 and 6: 7.

Dominic Thiem - Stefanos Tsitsipas: What to expect?

Although Stefanos Tsitsipas is only 24 years old, there have already been ten duels with the experienced Dominic Thiem. The Austrian won six times. The Greek, who has at least four wins, is currently in better shape. At the end of April 2023, the players met for the last time. It was a three-set duel in Madrid. The Greek triumphed 3: 6, 6: 1 and 7: 6. Based on the last four duels, each player has two wins. Both duelists have always won at least one set.

Due to Thiem's injury in 2021, we see the Greek as a favorite here. There is already a decent kink in the career of the Austrian. Our assessment: Tsitsipas wins! Nevertheless, Dominic Thiem always gave a decent performance against Stefanos Tsitsipas. Because of this, even though it's the 1st round at Wimbledon, we believe it's a 4-set match.
