Red Devils seek revenge in Brighton

Brighton and Manchester United meet at the American Express Stadium on Thursday (4 May). This is a rescheduled Matchday 28 fixture that is an important game for both teams towards their respective goals of the season. Brighton are still struggling to break into international business and have recently been in a goal mood.

The guests from Manchester are currently in a Champions League place and could take a big step towards the top class with a win. This starting position has a certain explosiveness, which means that an exciting game can be expected. On top of that, the Red Devils seek their revenge for their home loss (1-2) in opening matchday of this season against the Seagulls.

Manchester are currently in 4th place with 63 points and Brighton in 8th place with 52 points. With 3 points, Brighton could come close to Liverpool, who have already played 33 games. The teams ranked 5th to 9th are within 6 points but have all played different numbers of games. Manchester United could overtake Newcastle with 3 points, which has 65 points from 33 games.

Brighton with refreshing attacking football

The Brighton hosts are having a very good season, playing in the wider circle of international places. The strengths of the eleven are clearly in the offensive, which is shown in goal mood this season. The Wolverhampton Wanderers felt this most recently, picking up a 0-6 swatter on the English Channel. In the previous league games, the "Seagulls" always scored at least one goal, which impressively underlines the qualities in the game up front. Manchester United also had to experience this painfully in their last league game in Brighton and got under the wheels here in May last year with 0-4.

Brighton have won eight of their 15 home games to date. The points were shared four times and the opponent had to admit defeat three times. Since the team was able to score almost as many points away from home, it is a team without any major weaknesses. This also shows the goal difference, where Brighton even has clear advantages over the guests from Manchester.

Although Brighton are currently only eighth in the table, the team has qualification for the Europa League in their own hands. The reason for this are the catch-up games that are still waiting for the team. Thus, the "Seagulls" could still overtake Liverpool FC, which is currently fifth, and be represented internationally next season. However, it will also depend on the accuracy of the offensive in the final spurt of the season.

The expected lineup: Sanchez, Gross, Dunk, Colwill, Estupiñán, Caicedo, Mac Allister, March, Lallana, Mitoma and Ferguson. Brighton also probably use the 4-2-3-1 system for defensive strength and effective space allocation. It allows easy transformation into 4-4-2 or 4-3-3, with balanced defense and offense. Midfield pressing and attack pressing offer opportunities to win the ball. The good depth gradation allows fluid combination play and dominance in the center of midfield. The strengths are variable play and quick system changes, high stability in central midfield and space for individual actions. Coordination between players is required for compactness and offensive support, where the balance of offensive and defensive actions depends on the player types used. Focusing on the wingers' individual skills can be problematic if they're not fast enough or assertive enough.

United needs a happy season closure

The visitors from Manchester are in full swing to qualify for the Champions League. The team has stabilized under coach Erik ten Hag this season, but has not been able to convince consistently. Especially in the offensive there is sand in the gears, which has already led to many tough games. Nevertheless, the team brings a lot of potential to the pitch and is always a difficult opponent to play on. Most recently, there was a hard-fought 1-0 home win against Aston Villa, who are just ahead of today's opponents in the table. The dramatic victory against Brighton in the FA Cup semifinals should also encourage the guests. However, the game took place on neutral ground at Wembley Stadium.

Comfortably ahead of fifth place, Manchester United could take a big step towards the Champions League with a win. This goal would be very important for the club after some disappointments in recent years. Due to the end of the Europa League at FC Sevilla, the Premier League is also the last chance to qualify. The "Red Devils" will therefore throw everything into the balance to take something countable home with them at the end of the game.

With the formation of De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Shaw, Malacia, Casemiro, Fred, Fernandes, Eriksen, Rashford and Martial, the 4-2-3-1 system utilizes a basic defensive formation and effective space allocation. The formation is flexible, offers defensive security and offensive power. It enables midfield pressing, attack pressing and fluid combination play. The strengths are good staggering, high stability in central midfield and room for individual actions. A need for tuning is required to ensure compactness and offensive support, and the balance between offense and defense depends on player types. Focusing on the wingers' individual skills can be problematic if they aren't fast enough or assertive enough.
