Can Valencia lift themselves out of relegation zone?

In the Primera Division there is a rather surprising duel in the table basement on the 22nd matchday. Getafe FC has been there in recent years, while Valencia FC is surprisingly only in 18th place and thus in a relegation zone. The bats now want to attack with a new trainer.

It's a duel in the table basement of the Spanish Primera Division. FC Getafe is already quite practiced, after all, in the past two years they only managed to stay up in the league with 15th place. This year it will be a difficult undertaking again, because after 21 matchdays the team is second to last in the table.

If they lose their game against Valencia, the gap to the saving bank would continue to grow. The guests do not have such a high level of experience in the relegation battle. In recent years, the bats have mostly managed to get stuck in the middle of the table. Due to the poor results, the club decided to change coaches just a few days ago.

Getafe analysis

Within just a few years, a European Cup team became a relegation candidate. In the past two years, Getafe FC has only finished 15th in the table. This meant that they only just secured relegation in the league every time. This year this goal will be even more difficult to achieve, because after 21 matchdays they are only on the 19th place in the table.

Only FC Elche is still behind them in the table. After all, only 2 points separate them from the saving bank at the moment. The game against FC Valencia will still be a so-called 6-point game. They are in 18th place with just one point more and thus exactly one rank ahead of Getafe FC.

Quique Sanchez Flores has been on the sidelines of Getafe FC since October 2021. After all, he led the team to stay up in the league last season. Despite a rather weak record, he is still on the sidelines. However, it is not clear how long he will continue to do so, because they are currently 7 games without a win and the pressure on the Spaniard is increasing.
In a game as important as against Valencia it will be extremely important for him to get a positive result. The last win so far this season came on matchday 15 when they beat Mallorca 2-0. It was the coach's 15th win in 56 games . His point average is still a weak 1.18 points per game.

Getafe has been without a win for 6 games now. After 4 defeats in a row, they finally got 2 draws in a row. Among other things, there was a 1-1 away draw at Atletico Madrid. In general, it has been noticeable in the last few weeks that the team is struggling enormously on the offensive. In the period of 6 games they scored only 4 goals. In 2 games they remained completely without scoring a goal.
The defense presents itself completely differently, only allowing more than one goal twice. Even against FC Barcelona they only conceded one goal. The last 4 games of Getafe therefore all ended with less than 2.5 goals.

Most of their points this season came from home games. In 11 games they got 2 wins there and 4 other games ended in a draw. You have lost less than half of the home games. With 14 goals conceded, the quite stable defense that the club has is also confirmed here. 10 goals in 11 games, on the other hand, is a bad value. For the 5th time in home games they have not scored their own goals at all.

Valencia analysis

In contrast to the opponent, FC Valencia is not necessarily used to being in a relegation zone. The former Champions League participant has at least managed to place himself in the middle of the table in recent years. However, after a number of top performers left the club again in the summer, the situation is now difficult. Due to the still existing quality in the squad, we believe that the team will free itself from it. With Ruben Baraja as the new coach, the first win should be against Getafe. With these 3 points you would probably leave the relegation places again.

A major weakness this season is certainly their away appearances. Valencia have only won one away game this season. 6 out of 10 away games were lost. This is not due to the defensive, because 14 goals conceded in 10 games is an average value. The offensive, on the other hand, is struggling enormously and has only scored 8 goals so far. That puts them under 1.00 goals per game.

Recently they could not score in 3 away games in a row. These last 3 away games were all lost.Overall, the team has been waiting for a win for 6 away games. The only one they did this season came against Osasuna on Matchday 8. It was one of only 2 games where they could score 2 goals.

A few days ago, Ruben Baraja was introduced as a new coach. The Spaniard knows FC Valencia very well, after all he is still considered a legend there and played even more actively with the bats in the Champions League, among other things. He has held various positions as a coach so far. He was already active at FC Elche, Rayo Vallecano, Sporting Gijon and Real Zaragoza.

Now he is taking over a club for the first time with which he actually has the opportunity to play international business. However, his mission this season is to stay up. However, at his last stop at Real Zaragoza in the autumn, he was 7 games in a row without a win and was therefore dismissed.

FC Valencia is certainly not where you would expect it to be at the moment. After all, the club has a squad market value of almost €250 million. There are international top players like Jose Gaya, Hugo Guillamon or Edinson Cavani in the squad. The potential to quickly get out of the relegation zone is therefore undoubtedly there. However, the newly formed offensive is finding it extremely difficult. Eight new players were signed for the offensive in the summer. None of these players can have more than 5 hits so far. With Edinsom Cavani, the top scorer in the team should now also fail.

Getafe - Valencia: What to expect?

The bats can go into the game against Getafe FC with confidence. They won their first duel of the season 5-1. For Valencia it was the 3rd game in a row that they didn't lose against Getafe. But at the same time you have been waiting for a win for 4 duels away. After 3 defeats in a row they got at least a 0:0 draw in their last away game at Getafe. In the last 3 duels against Getafe they only conceded one goal.

There is no favorite in this game, the bookmakers see it that way and give the two teams almost identical odds. Due to the fact that Valencia has a new coach, we would slightly favor the guests. A double chance bet X/2 is therefore advisable. A low over/under bet should also be suitable. Both teams are among the worst offensive teams in the league. We therefore recommend a betting tip of Under 1.5 goals.

  • Double Chance X2
  • Under 1.5
