Can anyone stop Bayern Munich?

After the tenth title in a row, fans of the Bundesliga have one question in mind when it comes to betting on the German champions: Can FC Bayern be prevented from winning their 11th title? While the challengers were hoping before the start of the season, the record champions are once again four points ahead in the second half of the season.

German betting providers therefore see Bayern clearly ahead in the Bundesliga champion betting odds and at best BVB and RB Leipzig as possible title rivals.

So, is this Bundesliga 2022/23 season a solo race, a duel or a three-way battle?

FC Bayern celebrated an anniversary last season that the other clubs didn't like at all: ten championship titles in a row! Will there even be a staggering number of title wins this year? FC Bayern has been champions consistently since 2012, rarely giving the competition any hope. It was mainly the Kovac years when the championship was decided a little later.

Nevertheless, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig have every chance of becoming Bundesliga champions in 2023. That's why it's worth taking a look at the champion candidates of the Bundesliga.

The favorite: Bayern’s odds for the championship a very low

FC Bayern's championship odds are as low as we are used to from recent years. Despite the noisy departure of Robert Lewandowski last summer and some initial difficulties, the Munich team are again in the lead.

The Munich signings were excellent, while noble joker Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting rose to the top scorer at the end of the first half of the season and made Lewandowski forgotten.

The partially flawed defense of the past few years has been significantly improved by Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt, among others. In the form that FCB showed towards the end of the second half of the season, nobody will be able to oust Munich from the throne.

Since the squad also acts offensively at a high level, the only way to the German champions is via FCB. Especially since Dortmund and Leipzig are not in second place after the World Cup break, but SC Freiburg.

A fight for 2nd place. Champions without Bayern Munich

Since the Bayern Champion odds are justifiably low, you can place other bets for the German Bundesliga 2022/23: champion bets without FC Bayern. These are about who achieves the highest ranking outside of FCB. Of course, the designated Bayern pursuers BVB and Leipzig have the best cards here. But apart from the championship title, surprises are always possible in the Bundesliga.

Since 2016, only once has a team other than BVB or Leipzig become runners-up – namely Schalke 2018 – but other clubs have repeatedly come close to first place behind Bayern. Last season, for example, Leverkusen and Freiburg were at the top for a long time.

In 2022/23, SC Freiburg is again promising in the champions betting in Germany and is the first pursuer in the second half of the season.

Which is your favorite? Place your bet now for the German Champions in 2022/23!

Champions without Bayern (finish in Top 2)

  • RasenBallsport Leipzig - In Top 2 - 1.9
  • Borussia Dortmund - In Top 2 - 3.5
  • Freiburg - In Top 2 - 5.5
  • Eintracht Frankfurt - In Top 2 - 12
  • Union Berlin - In Top 2 -  18

Borussia Dortmund. Another restart

It's all new again in Dortmund. After the unsuccessful attempt with Marco Rose, Edin Terzic is now back on the BVB bench. But what are the prospects for the black and yellow bets in the Bundesliga after a major upheaval?

Despite the less than edifying start, the BVB champion odds are rated as the second-lowest by bookmakers. Borussia have established themselves as Bayern's first pursuers - even though important pillars have collapsed.

Above all, of course, Erling Haaland, who was drawn to Manchester City. There is also a completely new duo in defense with Niklas Süle and Nico Schlotterbeck. The two internationals should strengthen the shaky defense.

After 6th place in the first half of the season, there is not only a lot of room for improvement on the defensive. A problem for BVB was the lack of goalscorers after newcomer Sebastien Haller fell ill with cancer. At least Youssoufa Moukoko scored the goals towards the end of the first half of the season.

Should things go better in the second half of the season, BVB's Bundesliga champion bets will have to be corrected downwards. But the championship title is already a long way off for Dortmund and could only be achieved through major weak phases in Munich and Leipzig.

RB Leipzig: Top flight again

Since promotion to the Bundesliga, RB Leipzig has only twice not been in the top 3 (6th place in 2018), including last season's 4th place. After the disappointing start under Jesse Marsch, things went much better under Domenico Tedesco.

At first they almost missed out on the Champions League, but in the end they finished 4th and won the DFB Cup, and with it the first title for the marketing project in Germany. Now Marco Rose is the new coach at RB.

Now can they also win the Championship? Not so easy and not so fast. Similar to Borussia Dortmund, the chances are rather moderate. There is simply a quality deficit compared to Bayern.

However, RB probably will easily reach a Champions League spot. After all, after a moderate start to the first half of the season under Tedesco, the turnaround with Rose was successful. Third place in the league is almost where they feel they belong according to their sporting results.

Fight to avoid relegation

While the usual suspects are expected in the fight for the German championship , the teams that will be relegated to the Bundesliga 2 are less obvious. About half a dozen teams could be found in the bottom of the table according to the Bundesliga relegation odds!

In addition to newly promoted Schalke 04, there are also Hertha BSC, VfB Stuttgart, FC Augsburg and VfL Bochum. But 1. FC Köln could also become an issue in the Bundesliga relegation bets...

Nobody wants to be called Bundesliga relegated at the end of the 2022/23 season. But in the end it will definitely hit two clubs, maybe even three.

  • Schalke 04 To Be Relegated - 1.3
  • VfL Bochum To Be Relegated - 1.85
  • Augsburg To Be Relegated - 2.55
  • Hertha BSC To Be Relegated - 3.74
  • VfB Stuttgart To Be Relegated - 4.5
  • 1. Koln To Be Relegated - 17
  • Werder Bremen To Be Relegated - 20
  • Bayer 04 Leverkusen To Be Relegated - 67
  • VfL Wolfsburg To Be Relegated - 101
  • 1. FSV Mainz 05 To Be Relegated - 101

Hertha Berlin

After Hertha BSC was able to save themselves at the last minute last year, there are quite a few who now see the Big City Club as black. At first glance, the Berliners are too comparable to HSV, which has been stuck in the 2nd Bundesliga for four years.

After Felix Magath kept Hertha in the league, Sandro Schwarz is now a new man waiting on the sidelines for the Berlin pros. But does he really have what it takes to shape an entire era?

The Bundesliga relegation odds of the bookmakers do not see Hertha BSC as the absolute top favorites, but the capital city club will definitely not be able to sit back and relax.

The first half of the season showed that although they are slightly improved, they still remain in the bottom quarter.

As soon as a few games are lost in a row in the second half of the season, the team's thoughts will immediately return to the previous, unsuccessful season, which they actually wanted to forget as soon as possible.

Schalke and Werder Bremen

Because with second division champions Schalke 04 and Werder Bremen, two absolute crowd pullers are returning to the league after a year's break.

It's certainly not impossible that S04 and Werder end up being relegated.

Schalke in particular is ahead in the Bundesliga relegation odds. The Royal Blues finished the first half of the season in last place and have a lot of work ahead of them in the second half of the season to close the gap at the top.

With a strong final sprint in the 2nd Bundesliga, however, Schalke showed that they have learned from past mistakes and are there when it all comes down to it. If that succeeds one league up, nobody has to worry too much.

Meanwhile, Werder Bremen played a very strong first half of the season, which they even finished in the top half of the table - not least thanks to striker Niclas Füllkrug. But the distance to the relegation places is not huge.

Bochum

In their 2nd year in the top division, things aren’t so easy. Keep in mind that history shows that it's easier for a newly promoted team to be relegated in its 2nd year, than in the 1st right after winning the 2 Bundesliga championship. VfL Bochum still has a balanced squad, which, as expected, is weakened by the departures of Bella Kotchap and Polter.

So it is quite understandable why the betting providers rate Bochum as a hot candidate in their relegation odds. In the first half of 2022/23 it was only enough for 17th place, which would not be enough in the end.

Augsburg and Stuttgart in the mix

Neither FC Augsburg nor VfB Stuttgart, who pulled themselves out of the relegation loop in the last second of the 34th match day last season, are full of optimism for the 2022/23 championship.

In this respect, no one is surprised that both are again among the relegation candidates in 2023.  After the first half of the season Augsburg was a point ahead of the relegation place, which means that they really can't sit back and relax in Swabia. The bottom line is that the team just doesn't have the necessary quality apart from combat strength.

At least the team spirit at VfB Stuttgart is always right, as the spectacular rescue showed. But here, too, the coach was finally replaced with Pellegrino Matarazzo. Will the returnee Bruno Labbadia save VfB?

Even in the Bundesliga relegated bets, the two clubs from Augsburg and Stuttgart are currently not very different. Both will probably play at the bottom until the end.

Is a surprise possible?

At first glance, all other Bundesliga clubs would be a surprise if they were relegated. FSV Mainz 05 could be the most likely to be hit, but the carnival club has been playing in the 1st Bundesliga without interruption since 2010.

With the existing continuity on the coaching bench and without a double burden, there is little to suggest that 2022/23 will go down to the 2nd division. The first half of the season was solid with 10th place.

The myth of the magical 40 points mark. Since the introduction of the three-point rule, the 40-point mark has been the target for teams and managers fighting for survival. In fact, no team has ever been relegated from the Bundesliga if they have 40 or more points after 34 match days.

In practice, however, this brand is often not needed at all. In 2019/2020, for example, 32 points would have been enough to finish 15th.
