Feyenoord and Roma are eyeing the semi-finals

Last year, these two clubs met in the final of the newly created Europa Conference League. AS Roma narrowly won 1-0 and thus won the title. Now a year later they meet in the quarter-finals of the Europa League. The Romans are the favorites again, but Feyenoord are obviously out for revenge. In the home game, they are even considered the favorites.

Feyenoord Rotterdam have done very well in the Europa League so far this season and are surprisingly in the quarter-finals. The hosts not only play well internationally, but also lead in the domestic Eredivisie. They are about to win their first championship title since 2017. But first they want to create a good starting position in the Europa League. In the duel with AS Roma they are the slight outsider. Creating a good starting position in the home game is therefore extremely important. The Italians are of course aiming for the double pack. After winning the Conference League last year, they could be rewarded with the Europa League title this year. But first they need a good result in Rotterdam.

Feyenoord is developing into an international force

Arne Slot has been on the sidelines of Feyenoord Rotterdam since the 2021/22 season. In less than 2 years he reached the Conference League final with the team, finished third in the domestic league and this year is even at the top of the table ahead of Ajax Amsterdam. They also made it into the quarter-finals for the first time in the Europa League. Feyenoord's season is therefore relatively easy to analyze: Outstanding. Now, of course, they want to continue to reward themselves and also move into the semi-finals. They can't keep up with the Romans in terms of quality, but they have already shown outstanding performances at home this year. The home game against AS Roma will therefore also be extremely important. So far, they have coped very well with the double burden of the league and international competition and it is hardly an issue.

Group F of this Europa League season will probably go down in history, because all 4 teams ended up with 8 points. Although Feyenoord had the same number of points as the bottom of the group, Sturm Graz, they won the group. This was of course due to the good goal difference. The hosts provided the best of the group with 13:9 goals. Above all, they were number 1 offensively. The record was anything but outstanding with 2 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats. In the round of 16, however, they showed their full potential. After the first leg against Shakhtar Donzek ended 1-1, a 7-1 home win secured entry into the quarter-finals. Feyenoord only missed out on a single Europa League game this year and that was in their 1-0 loss to Sturm Graz.

The team managed to leave the two top teams PSV Eindhoven and Ajax Amsterdam behind this year and even quite clearly. After 28 matchdays they are in the league with a lead of 8 points at the top of the table . They can probably only lose the championship title with a complete slump. But that is not to be expected at the moment, the team has been performing too consistently this season. They lost just one game in the league all season. This was on Matchday 7 away at PSV Eindhoven (4:3). They have been unbeaten in the league for 21 games. A total of 20 out of 27 games were won. With just 27 goals conceded in 28 games, they have the best defense in the league and are the only team to concede less than 1.00 goals per game on average. In the past 4 games, on the other hand, they always allowed at least one goal.

With Justin Bijlow, a top performer is still missing. The goalkeeper could return later this week, but it probably won't be enough for a Europa League appearance. The clear strength of the team is the defense. With Gernot Trauner and David Hancko they have an experienced central defender duo. Captain Orkun Kökcu forms a strong midfield together with the new international Mats Wieffer. Newcomer Santiago Gimenez scored the most goals on offense. The Mexican has scored 10 times in the league this year. In the Europa League he was even 5 times successful in 7 games. Also on the last matchday this marked a goal in the 5:1 victory over RKC Waalwijk.

Mourinho and Roma eyeing the next international title

In his first year, coach Jose Mourinho led the team to an international title. AS Roma was able to win the newly founded Europa Conference League. In the final they defeated Feyenoord Rotterdam of all people. Almost a year later, they meet again in the quarter-finals of the Europa League. The guests are once again the slight favorites, but the opponent has improved since last year. However, in Jose Mourinho, Roma have a sideline coach who knows how to win trophies. In general, those responsible will be satisfied with the season so far, after all, they are also in a good 3rd place in Serie A. They are therefore on course towards the Champions League. Incidentally, this would also be achieved with a win in the Europa League.

We wouldn't count AS Roma among the big favorites for the title. But with Manchester United and Juventus Turin there are still two teams in the competition that we would normally rate a little better. However, AS Roma can definitely be counted among the extended favorites, after all they are the slight favorites for promotion in the quarter-finals against Feyenoord. With Jose Mourinho, they also have the coach on the bench who has the most experience in international competitions. In the previous 4 KO games they only conceded a single goal, even though they had two tough opponents in Red Bull Salzburg and Real Sociedad. An increase in the KO phase is definitely noticeable, after all it was even more difficult in the group phase and they even lost 2 out of 6 games.

Not only in the Europa League does the team make a good impression this year, also in Serie A one could achieve the goal of a top 4 place. There they are after 29 match days in a good 3rd place. After a short period of weakness, they recently won 2 more games in a row and did so without conceding a goal. In general, they have a very stable defense with only 26 goals in 29 games. This is also necessary because the team can't keep up with the top teams offensively this year. They even have the worst offensive line among the top 7 teams in the table. Roma have only scored 19 goals in 15 away games. With 7 wins, they still managed to win almost half of their away games.

This year, Roma are not an absolute top team, especially offensively. A lot depends on new signing Paulo Dybala. With 11 goals and 7 assists, the Argentine is by far the best scorer in the team . The air is getting thin around him, however, as apart from Tammy Abraham, no player has managed to score more than 4 goals this season. New signing Andrea Belotti also fell far short of their own expectations. The good news for all fans: There is currently no top performer who has to sit out due to injury. Last weekend they also rotated a bit in one or the other position.

Feyenoord - Roma: What to expect?

In last year's final, AS Roma narrowly won 1-0. This time, too, the guests are considered easy favorites, but Roma often have a hard time away from home this year. The guests could probably live very well with a draw. We would therefore opt for a draw no bet 1 bet . If Feyenoord wins, you still get a good odds. Due to the strong defense of the Italians and the fact that they will try to stay clean for a long time, we also expect Under 2.5 goals in the game.

  • Feyenoord not to lose (1 DNB, or 1X)
  • Under 2.5
