Premier League Part II: Student versus teacher

Club football is back! The top championships are ready to delight fans all over the world. La Liga, Italy Serie A, French Ligue 1 and, of course, the EPL. Following the results of the first part of the season the standings are headed by Arsenal. The London side have picked up a crazy form which could be the envy of even last season's champion - Manchester City. By the way, Guardiola's team are sitting second. And, it is these two teams who will presumably fight for the EPL trophy. Apprentice versus teacher - Arteta versus Guardiola.

Of course, it's not so clear-cut here. The EPL has always been known for its unpredictability. Here, the team that was in first place at the end of the season could end up in fourth place. Here the underdogs take important points from the leaders. It's England - it's always fun.

And there are a few things you should know before you start betting on EPL games: the format, the league structure and of course the latest news on the teams and players involved.
Manchester City are favourites to win the EPL with odds of 1.52 and Arsenal have odds of 3.16.

So, where did we leave things?

Besides Arsenal which is on the top of the league 5 points ahead of Manchester City, the first part of the season had another surprise. Newcastle having lost only once in 15 matches is third and seems pretty ambitious.

The fourth spot is occupied by Tottenham, while Manchester United and Liverpool lie three and seven points behind. Spurs are starting to tremble after a strong start to the season, and questions remain about Chelsea and Liverpool based on their early performances.

Graham Potter, Chelsea's manager, has seen his team's performance deteriorate under his watch, and he is sure to appreciate the break. Wolves, meanwhile, have only 10 points and are currently dead last, but they have hired new head coach Julen Lopetegui in the hopes of a dramatic turnaround. Under new manager Nathan Jones, Southampton sits in 19th place, one point behind Nottingham Forest. The two teams currently most 'at risk' of joining the bottom three are Everton and West Ham.

EPL format for the 2022/23 season

There are 20 strongest teams in the Elite division. Each team will play two league games in the course of the season. The results of the 38 games played will determine the final standings: The four strongest teams will advance to the Champions League group stage, the fifth place will play in the Europa League group stage and the sixth will advance to the Conference League. The three weakest teams (18-20) will leave the elite tier and will be relegated in the Championship.

Changes to the English league table for the 2022/23 season

Five substitutions:Many clubs in England will now be able to make five substitutions in a row. They have been fighting against this rule for a long time, but you will now be able to use 5 substitution slots from the new season.

The goalkeeper's positioning during penalties: All last years goalkeepers were forced to have at least one foot on the goal line, but that has changed now. From now on, goalkeepers can put both feet behind the line into the goal, but not forward.

The Norwegian forward joined Manchester City just this season and has already scored 18 goals in 14 games. His crazy stats suggest that this particular player will be the top scorer for the current EPL season.
